Strawberry River Chapter DAR holds meeting

By srchronicle11 Feb2,2022

Strawberry River Chapter DAR met Saturday, January 22, 2022, in a zoom meeting with nine members and special guest ASDAR State Treasurer Charline Manning present.

Following the opening ritual and officer reports, a program was presented about Service to America. Daughters of the American Revolution is a service organization. We volunteer in a variety of community activities to support the goals of the national society which are Education, Patriotism, and Historic Preservation as established in 1890 by our founding members.  Even with COVID, our chapter members find ways to support our communities.

Locally Strawberry River Chapter supports our Veterans who reside in the six area rehab and nursing centers within the tri-county area. Many members regularly make donations of food and money to backpack programs in our schools. We have donated food, baby clothes, and baby books to New Beginnings Pregnancy Help Center. Our chapter is a strong proponent of literacy and have donated books to school libraries, volunteered with Friends of the Library, and we recognized Family Literacy Day. Members volunteer time with church work; several serve on community boards to support local cemeteries or work on cemetery preservation. Four members volunteered a day at the Northeast Arkansas Archives at Powhatan cataloging old pictures. These are just a few of the projects in which our chapter members make a difference.

Strawberry River is a small chapter covering Sharp, Izard, and Fulton Counties.   Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
