The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and Mammoth Spring Police Department responded to a call around 4:30 p.m, April 19 to Cold Springs Curve near Mammoth Spring on the Spring River after receiving a call of a possible vehicle being submerged.

Upon arrival, Fulton County Chief Deputy Jake Smith said a boat was called to the scene and later, divers were contacted. The Vehicle was submerged about two to three feet over the roof. Later, divers were able to confirm there was a body in the vehicle. The Coroner was called and the body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Smith said the Department is being assisted by the Arkansas State Police in the investigation that he says is suspicious. At this time he could not comment on possibly how long the vehicle had been submerged, if they were able to obtain information on the vehicle’s owner, if the body was in the driver’s seat or if there were any other characteristics indicating the suspicion of foul play in the case.

Smith said once the department hopes to receive the results on the cause of death this week and will release more information as details become available. We will update this page as they become available.
