Dr. Anthony Campbell, board-certified general surgeon, recently joined Ozarks Healthcare. Originally from St. Louis, Dr. Campbell previously practiced as a locum physician at Ozarks Healthcare. Dr. Campbell now enjoys officially calling the Ozarks Healthcare operating room “home.”
“I’m excited to be close to home and work with great partners and staff,” Campbell said.
Campbell completed a fellowship in anatomic pathology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he met his wife, Jennifer. He completed a general surgery residency at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan in 2016. Campbell practiced as a general and trauma surgeon at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles after his graduation. Campbell also brings experience of operating his own traveling surgery company and practicing in multiple states.
Campbell earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from Kansas City University. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and psychology from Saint Louis University, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Campbell’s wife, Jennifer, and his three daughters, Madison (11), Mia (8), and Molly (6) split their time between West Plains and St. Louis. His daughters are competitive dancers, and his family has been members of Cloud 9 Ranch for many years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Campbell to Ozarks Healthcare,” Tom Keller, Ozarks Healthcare President and CEO, said. “As he has demonstrated before as a locum physician and surgeon, Dr. Campbell has excellent knowledge and skills in anatomy, pathology, and surgery. We are excited to have him help us provide top-surgical care to our patients.”
With his variety of experience and background in medicine, Campbell knew he wanted to be a surgeon since age 5.
“My father was a paramedic and is now a firefighter also,” Campbell said. “I heard his stories of saving lives regularly at the dinner table, and I knew I wanted to save lives also. I gravitated towards surgery because I love working with my hands.”
As a general surgeon, Campbell performs a variety of operations, including laparoscopic hernia repairs, cancer surgery, gallbladder and appendix removals, bowel surgery, removal of skin lesions, skin grafting, endoscopy, and more.
Campbell is accepting new patients and serves on-call at Ozarks Healthcare. Contact Ozarks Healthcare General Surgery at 417-256-1774 for more information. Ozarks Healthcare’s General Surgery Clinic is located at 1100 Kentucky Ave. in West Plains and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
