Community reception set to welcome new veterinarians

Drs. Roger and Donna Shaw, both graduates of LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, began their veterinary practice in the Highland area during the summer of 1983. Initially, they served the area in both large and small animal practice but most recently have been exclusively caring for small companion animals. They have been involved with many activities over the last 40 years including sponsoring various youth sports teams, working with 4-H students, and serving on the local school board. In 2015, Dr. Donna Shaw was recognized as Veterinarian of the Year by the veterinarians of the state of Arkansas for her commitment to veterinary medicine and many years of service to the community. In January of 2023, Drs. Roger and Donna Shaw will be retiring and passing their veterinary practice on to Dr. Danielle Barnes.
Dr. Barnes graduated from Calico Rock School in 2004 then attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science with a pre-veterinary emphasis and minor in chemistry. She graduated in 2015 from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
She is married to Shannan Barnes and they have two beautiful girls—Charleigh age 7 years and Ryleigh age 5 years.
A reception is planned at The Artisan in Ash Flat on Saturday, November 12, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. We welcome everyone to attend the reception and meet Dr. Barnes along with her family. She is looking forward to serving the dog and cat family members of the area and becoming involved in the community.
