Strawberry River Chapter DAR met Saturday, November 5, at Melbourne City Hall. Regent Jan Lusk called the meeting to order with 19 members and one prospective member in attendance. Following the opening ritual and approval of minutes and the treasurer’s report, committee updates were presented on Literacy Promotion and Wreaths Across America. Following the business meeting, Margo Lusk presented a children’s book review “Long May She Wave: The True Story of Caroline Pickersgill and Her Star-Spangled Creation”. It is the story of the girl who sewed the American flag which inspired the lyrics of the National Anthem.
Members prepared treat bags for the 65 Veterans currently residing in the six nursing-rehab centers in the tri-county area which were then delivered in time for Veterans Day.

The chapter purchased the book A Life of Service-The Story of Senator Tammy Duckworth. Each of the eight elementary school libraries served by Strawberry River Chapter received a copy in honor of our Veterans and in support of Literacy.
Strawberry River is a small chapter covering Sharp, Izard, and Fulton Counties. We work to fulfill the three objectives of DAR which are Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism as established in 1890 by our founding members.
Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Contact Jan Lusk at 870-847-0548 or Cynthia Clow-Elliott at 870-750-0874 for information.
