The Strawberry River Chapter, NS-DAR met Jan. 7 in a zoom meeting with14 members in attendance. Following the business meeting, members reviewed the chapter master report which reflects activities of the chapter during 2022; the upcoming Arkansas State Conference, March 23-25, in Little Rock was also discussed. The NSDAR Commemorative Events Committee encourages chapters and communities to recognize and celebrate significant events in our amazing American history. The chapter’s January program was a video which focused on the history of the 150th Anniversary of Yellowstone National Park. Signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant, March 1,1872, America’s first national park was set aside to preserve and protect the scenery, cultural heritage, wildlife, geologic and ecological systems and processes in their natural condition for the bene-fit and enjoyment of present and future generations. It is one of the last and largest nearly intact natural ecosystems on the planet with over 10,000 hydrothermal sites and half the world’s active geysers. The park is also rich in cultural and historical resources with 25 sites, landmarks, and districts on the National Register of Historic Places. Based on the park’s location at the convergence of the Great Plains, Great Basin, and Columbia Plateau, 27 Native American Tribes have historic and modern connections to the land and its resources. Preservation of Yellowstone Nation-al Park is ongoing so future generations can enjoy its natural beauty. Strawberry River is a small chapter covering Sharp, Izard, and Fulton Counties. We work to fulfill the three objectives of DAR which are Edu-cation, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism as established in1890 by our founding members. Any woman 18years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal de-scent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
