The Highland Lady Rebels have had an exception year under Highland’s new coaching team of Cecil and Lindsey Meyer. The Ladies finished off their season on March 7 after making it to the Elite Eight in State Playoffs, the first time the team has went this far in 20 years. The Lady Rebels proudly brought home the District Championship and were Runners Up in the Regionals.
They fell short but have nothing to hang their heads about with such an exceptional season. Coach Cecil Meyer posted a photo of his girls after their first team camp last May. Meyer said,
“After our first team camp last May I made a post and tagged it, “Future so bright you gotta where shades!” (some threw some SHADE on that post) Never did I think that these young ladies would take all of us on the ride they did. I know we are all proud of them but the strides they have made as a TEAM makes Lindsley and my hearts full. The standard has been set and it won’t be easy to maintain but this group showed us the way. I would like to say we are going to take some time off but I spent the bus ride back to Hope and a late night Waffle House meal trying to figure out how we are going to replace these SR’s. It will happen and some kids will step up, but that doesn’t not mean these Sr’s are going to be “replaced”, they will be missed dearly.”
