Highland Middle School Seventh grade English teacher Kass Emery announced that Ella Drumheller and Montana Davis have both been chosen from a list of submitted poems to be published in an anthology of student poetry. Only 50 percent of all submitted poems nationwide are chosen to be published.
Highland’s Junior High Quiz Bowl placed fourth at 4A-Regionals on Jan. 31 in Walnut Ridge. This qualifies them for the state tournament that will be held on Feb. 15 in Bryant. Pictured from left are: Cally Nicholson, Captain- Jadyn McHenry, Sophie Prokop and Michael Arthur.
Cave City Junior Beta Club recently attended the state convention in Hot Springs. Students participated in the competitions that included Academics- Spanish, Language Arts, Math, Creative Writing, Spelling, Science, Visual Arts, Quiz Bowl, Book Battle. Four students placed in the top five in their competitions. Eighth grade: Lucero Saltillo placed Third in Spanish. Hadley Landers placed Second in Pottery. Seventh grade:Micah Farris placed Third in Math. Georgie Thorne placed Second in Painting.
Highland Choir director Mr. Self selected several students to represent Highland in the first state-wide Small School Honor Choir. The students participated in a full-day clinic on Feb. 1 led by the UCA Director of Choirs, Dr. Frank Eychaner, and then performed with other selected students at The Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts. GTS Salem donated $1000 to both the Salem High and Elementary School’s to continue the Greyhound Care Closets. GTS employees are pictured with Salem Elementary Principal, Lindsey Wiseman.
