Cave City athlete sets school and state indoor track record

For the first time since 2020, the Cave City Cross Country and Track Team returned to the Indoor State Championships. The event was held Feb.18 at the University of Arkansas; Randal Tyson Track Center saw Cave City bring home lots of hardware as well as state and school records having been set at the event. The team set some great records, including bringing home a few state championship and runners up as well as setting a state indoor record. Britney Mahan claimed the medal for the 3200 meter run. She also set a personal and school record with the 13:41.40 run. She is now the State Champion and set a state re-cord for the run. Mahan also placed third in the 1600 meter run in the state championships with a 6:25.97, which was also a personal and school record. Sawyer Seat’s school and personal record jump of 6’ 2” earned him a spot as the 3AState Runner-up in High Jump and Sixth overall , which includes1A-6A Divisions. Brock Smith is the 2023 3200 meter Indoor 3A State Runner-up. He ran his two miles in 11:54.10.Smith also placed ninth in the1600 meter run with a personal record time of 5:38.93Gage Huff placed Tenth in Shot Put with a personal record throw of 31’ 0.5”Aris Brady placed ninth in the 60 meter dash with a Personal and School Record time of 9.27 seconds. Samantha Love placed sixth in the Long Jump with a Person-al and School Record jump of 11’ 9.25”As a team the Cavewomen placed Seventh in 3A with 19 points. Both are the highest in Cave City Track History for the girls. The Boys placed Sixth with 16 points. The outdoor cross country and track season will kick off on March 7 in Pocahontas.
