The winners of the Fifth Annual Spring River’s Got Talent were announced following the Sept. 12 competition at the Hardy Civic Center.
Twelve contestants took the stage during the event, with Kirk “Duck” Moffett capturing first place and the $1,000 prize. Moffett has performed publicly for 19 years and has traveled throughout the country performing.
Thirteen-year-old Sawyer Fleeman earned second place and a $500 prize, while well-known local musician Pete Whitehurst took third place and $250. Whitehurst began performing publicly at age 12, singing in front of the Hardy Sweet Shop.
All three winners performed original songs and accompanied themselves on guitar or banjo.
Other contestants included Alvin Adcock, Deborah Dean, Chuck Guthrie, 13-year-old Kord Henderson, Hardin Hunt, Bryan Keller, Kristalyn McFadden, Cecelia Rhea and Hadi Wortham.
Last year’s first-place winner, Carolyn Carter, entertained the crowd during intermission.
The event was produced by the Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce as a fundraiser for community programs, including scholarships.
The Chamber expressed its appreciation to the sponsors whose support helped make the event possible.
