Betty Jewel Stewart, 73, of Williford, Ark. passed away in her sleep on Easter morning, April 17, 2022. Betty was born in Watertown, NY. As a child Betty and her family moved from Watertown, NY to Golden, Colo. and then west to Anaheim, Cali.
She obtained a nursing degree at Fullerton Jr College. After working as a registered nurse in Anaheim, she moved to Prescott, Ariz. and worked at the VA Hospital. Later, Betty joined the Army Reserve and continued her education at Arizona State. She became an officer in the active Army, attaining the rank of Captain was stationed at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. She then spent a tour in South Korea at the 121st Evac Hospital. Upon separating from the military, Betty returned to Prescott, Ariz. where she went back to work at the VA Hospital. When she left the VA Hospital she traveled to Alaska and took a nursing position. After coming back to Prescott, Betty worked as a nurse at the Yavapai County Jail. Betty moved to Williford, Ark. and worked in the hospital in Ash Flat.
Betty was an ardent reader and loved her local library. She was also an excellent seamstress and always had a project in mind for a friend or her family. Dogs and cats knew of Betty’s caring heart and many found their way into her life and home. Whenever possible Betty was an avid supporter of Ozark Acres Volunteer Fire Department.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Walter John Stewart and Cecilia Jewel Dougherty. Her sister Alma Stewart Lancaster predeceased her as well. She is survived by her siblings Edward Stewart (Sandy), her twin brother Robert Stewart (Joan), Henry Stewart (Linda) and Michael Stewart.
She was a loving sister and friend to so many. Betty will be missed. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Sharp County Library, Williford Branch or Ozark Acres Volunteer Fire Department, Williford, Ark.
