The new Bachelor of Science degree program in digital technology and design at Arkansas State University features several emphasis areas. The program provides students with a combination of skills consisting of design and programming principles, software, and project management. The degree program can be completed on campus or online, or through a hybrid approach. The Department of Art + Design in the College of Liberal Arts and Communication and the Griffin College of Business collaborated to develop the program, which started on campus last fall after initially operating online. “The online option is an accelerated program consisting of seven-week terms, which could potentially lead to a student earning a bachelor’s degree in just two years,” stated Mindy Fulcher, assistant professor and di-rector of digital technology and design. She added the program also offers certificates in Swift coding, game design and development, virtual reality content design and filmmaking, and Android application development. These can be achieved as stand-alone certifications or added to a bachelor’s degree. Six start dates for the program are available throughout the year, including fall, spring and summer terms on campus. Applications are due by Feb. 20 for the next class, which starts March 6. Fulcher said the pro-gram is expected to be a popular alternative because of the variety of emphasis areas that teach cutting-edge technologies. “Those who complete the new degree program can pursue job advancement or new careers in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cyber security design, game design, mobile application development, social media management, software design and development, virtual reality production and web development. ”Detailed information about the program and its various emphasis areas, such as mobile app development, is available online.
