Area high schooler anglers compete in Abu Garcia Bassmaster National Championship

Four area fishing teams competed last week in the Abu Garcia Bassmaster High School Championship presented by Academy Sports and Outdoors at Lake Hartwell in Anderson, South Carolina. While the teams did not make the final 12 to compete on Saturday, two teams finished in the top 65 out of 314 of the best high school fishing teams across the nation.

The top finishing team in the area was Sloan Hendrix’s team of Braxton and Tyler Wall, who finished 64th.

Three teams represented Salem. Madison Busch and Keaton Bassham finished 65th with a two day total of 10 fish weighing in at 18 pounds and one ounce.

Fisher Tyler and Blake Ingram ended up 187th with eight fish weighing 10 pounds, 12 ounces an. Colton Smith and Huntlee York of Salem finished 267th with four fish weighing 5 pounds, 1 ounce. The teams enjoyed the trip, the family time and getting the honor of representing the Spring River Area in the national tournament.
