I spent most of my working life alone. Whether it was as a radio operator for the State Police working the twelve hour midnight shift or as a Highway Patrol Trooper in a car by myself, I had a lot of time to let my mind roam and …roam it did.
Usually it roamed to stuff that didn’t make much sense to me. Such as why do we put round pizza in a square box or that a boxer fights in a square ring? Why do we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway? Speaking of driving, since we are against drunk driving why do we have drive through liquor stores? For the drunk on the go I guess. And then there is food. We have jumbo shrimp and frozen food that is touted as “homemade”. It can’t be homemade since everyones definition of homemade would be how their Mom made it. And while we’re on food if a microwave cooks things faster, and I put instant coffee in it would I go back in time? I need this explained to me.
I also dumbfounded as to why light switches say on and off. If the lights are off, I probably can’t read the switch to see that. If they are on do I really need to walk over to the switch and read it to confirm it? I probably could go on and on and so could some of you, but I’ll just let this sink in. I would love to hear from some of you with similar observations.
