Cave City basketball coach resigns after being arrested at local tournament

The actions of Cave City’s head boys basketball coach has left Cave City without a boy’s basketball coach. Coach Jim Summers resigned his position after being arrested on Sat. May 20 at an Amateur Athletic Union basketball tournament at the Cave City gym. Summers arrest resulted after a complaint came in to the Cave City Police Department about his behavior. Chief Brian Barnett said his department responded to the gym and conducted an investigation into the allegations and cited Summer with Public Intoxication. He was arrested and booked into the Sharp County Detention Center. Superintendent Steven Green said Summers rendered his resignation to Green at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday. The district called a special emergency meeting to address the resignation on Mon. May 21.Theboard to voted to accept Summers resignation and post the opening.

Green explained the district felt it was doing their due diligence in posting the job opening in several locations. He said Assistant Coach Jonathan Fowler was strong candidate for the position ,but agreed they should open the pool for other candidates .Summers was the administrator in charge at the public event when the arrest occurred. Summers is the Cave City Senior Boys Head Coach and Assistant Junior High Coach as well as Seventh Grade Coach and PE Coach. He is listed to also have summer duties with the district. The Cave City School District posted a job opening for a “basketball position” on their social media page on May 23.
