Mammoth Spring residents were excited to see the opening of the Dollar General Market on July 28. The small Fulton County town has been without a grocery store for decades after Town and Country closed many years ago. The store held a grand opening over the weekend on Aug. 17.

Groundbreaking for the site, just south of Cotham’s Auction Barn at 1026 Highway 63 South, began in early April. 

Local officials, including the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce, have been working on the Dollar General Market project for the past five years.

While the building is just outside the city limits. The city is currently in the process of annexing the land into the city of Mammoth Spring. The grand opening community celebration was held on August 17, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials and the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce. The grand opening also featured customer giveaways, including $10 gift cards to the first 50 adult customers and DG tote bags with product samples to the first 100 customers.

The company’s fresh produce offering includes a curated assortment of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, limes, salad mixes, and more. DG’s produce set offers the top 20 items typically sold in traditional grocery stores and covers approximately 80 percent of the produce categories most grocery stores carry.

While DG is not a grocer, the company cares about and is invested in the health of its hometown communities. As of March 2024, DG currently has fresh produce in more than 5,400 stores, giving the company more individual points of produce distribution than any other U.S. mass retailer or grocer.
