Strawberry River Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, met Sat. Feb. 2 with 21 members present. Following the conclusion of the opening ritual and officer reports, committee updates were presented on the following: Service to America, American Heritage, and Public Relations and  Media. Delegates were elected to represent the chapter at the upcoming Arkansas State DAR Conference which will be March 27-28 in Little Rock. A nominating committee was also elected who will present a 2025-28 slate of officers at the April chapter meeting.

DAR honors our Veterans.  We partner with WAA (Wreaths Across America) an organization which honors the memory of the men and women who sacrificed for their country. Chapters and members are encouraged to register with Wreaths Across America, solicit wreath donations, participate in ceremonies and in the laying of wreaths.

The chapter’s charter members, who organized SRC in 1979, were from Horseshoe Bend. Wreaths Across America has given approval for Strawberry River Chapter to be a designated WAA sponsor for the Evening Shadows Memorial Park cemetery located in Horseshoe Bend. We will be honoring the legacy of our nation’s Veterans through participation in the Wreaths Across America ceremony on December 13, 2025. Additional information will be forthcoming at a later time.

Fourth Annual Valentine Candy Craze Project – Members assembled 400 Valentine treat bags to be delivered for Valentine’s Day to the six nursing/rehab centers in our tri-county service area. Our chapter appreciates the 3rd and fourth grade students at Cherokee Elementary School and the third grade students at both Melbourne and Salem Elementary Schools for assisting us with the project this year; students colored over 400 Valentines for the treat bags.  Also, we are grateful to Bixies Handmade Crafts who created beautiful Valentine cards for inclusion in the bags of our 60 Veterans.

SRC works to fulfill the three objectives of DAR which are Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism as established in 1890 by our founding members.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.  Contact us at 870-682-3262 for additional information about DAR and its programs.
