A local retailer, that asked their name not be used due to corporate regulations, began a competition selling balloons weeks earlier. This would ensure each student at all three campuses of Cave City Schools, the Cave City Nursing Home and daycares received a balloon for Valentine’s Day. Buses delivered the massive bundles to the schools early on Feb. 14. A spokesperson for the retailer said that 1400 balloons were donated thanks to the generosity of the community, who purchased them during the promotion. With a high poverty area like Cave City and Sharp County as a whole, oftentimes children’s families can’t afford Valentine surprises for their children. The balloons were a great treat for all.
