Sharp County Daughters of American Revolution meet

Strawberry River Chapter DAR met Saturday, December 3, with 12 members and two guests in attendance. Following the opening ritual and approval of minutes and the treasurer’s report, updates
on three DAR committees were presented:
 (1) Wreaths Across America. The chapter is a recognized sponsor of WAA; this year we are sponsoring 54 wreaths which will be placed on the resting sites of Veterans buried in the Mountain Home Cemetery.
 (2) Arkansas DAR chapters are involved in the Veterans Shoebox Project. Items from a selected list are purchased then members package, wrap, and deliver to Arkansas Veterans who either reside in a care facility or are homeless across the state. This is the third year for Strawberry River to be participating in this Christmas project; 70 Shoeboxes were prepared and delivered to Veterans residing in the six nursing/rehab centers within the tri-county area.
We salute Aemi and Roger Thompson of Salem who volunteered their time and resources assisting with this event. Roger is a Veteran; we appreciate his service. A special note of appreciation to Gibson Box Company for donating boxes for this project.
(3) Music is a category within the DAR’s American Heritage Committee. To get in the Christmas spirit, members were asked to identify Christmas songs based on clues to song titles. Some had to revert back to their childhood to recall a few tunes.
Strawberry River is a small chapter covering Sharp, Izard, and Fulton Counties. We work to fulfill the three objectives of DAR which are Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism as established in 1890 by our founding members.
Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Contact Jan Lusk at 870-847-0548 or Cynthia Clow-Elliott at 870-750-0874 for information.
