Highland Elks Lodge No. 2539, Cherokee Village, sponsored their annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest on Jan. 7 at the A. L. Hutson Center. Fourteen boys and girls, ages 8–13, from four area schools, participated in the event. The first-place winners from each age group will continue on to Hot Springs Feb. 4 to compete in the Arkansas State Elks Hoop Shoot Contest. Winners from that event will then advance to the Regional event in Paducah, Ken. on March 11, and hopefully then will continue to the National Competition in Chicago April 22.Deana Mack, Highland Elks Lodge No. 2539Hoop Shoot Chairman, says she was excited to be able to have this Elks National Hoop Shoot Competition again after not being able to the past two years due to Covid.
