Strawberry River DAR assists area veterans

Strawberry River Chapter met April 1 with 10 members present. Arkansas State Regent Gale Markley was our special guest. Following the opening ritual, delegates were elected to the upcoming Shawnee District meeting in May. The State Regent presented her administration’s goals and projects which will be highlighted during her three-year term 2022-25.State Regent Markley’s project is the Veteran’s Village located in Jonesboro, AR. The village serves Veterans by providing a variety of support services. It is the only housing project of its kind in Arkansas and one of only a few in the midsouth. There are seven550-square foot, one-bedroom homes and two 950-square foot, two-bed-room homes on the complex. As a surprise, chapter members “showered” her with paper products and cleaning items totaling $600 for the Veteran’s Village. Five members reported on the 115thArkansas State Conference which was May 23-25 in Little Rock. Strawberry River Chapter received an award for Chapter Achievement Outstanding Service-Gold Level Honor Roll,1st Place in Chapters with 51-100Members. The following committees received an Outstanding 1st Place Certificate: Women’s Issues, America250!, Community Classroom, Historical Preservation for Outstanding Ser-vice as achieved through the continued support of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives, Literacy Promotion-Outstanding Literacy Service of a Chapter, and Public Relations-Media. A total of 21 committee awards and certificates of recognition were presented for our service to the tri-county area. The following individuals were also recognized with DAR Leadership Training Certificates: Jan Lusk, Certificates for Committee Leaders Course and New Horizons Course; Trixy Dean received her Members Course Certificate. Jessica Garrett received a certificate for outstanding service as Community Classroom Project Volunteer in Conservation. Our service area includes Sharp, Izard, and Fulton Counties; members work to fulfill the three objectives of DAR which are Education, Historic Preservation, and Patriotism as established in 1890 by our founding members. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal de-scent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
