Sharp County Deputy receives life saving award

On April 5, 2023, central dispatch advised of a newborn child choking at the Old King Catfish parking lot in Hardy. Deputy Lane King responded and upon arrival, he observed the child and his mother. The mother was frantically trying to help the child breathe. Deputy King began performing a maneuver to allow him to cough and clear his airway. Deputy King also began patting the child’s back to assist the child with breathing. Due to Deputy King’s actions, the child was able to be returned safely to his mother and is now doing well. Captain Josh Williams presented Deputy King with the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award on April 28. This award is the third highest honor given by the Sheriff’s Office.
