Girtman announces re-election bid

Wanda Girtman

Sharp County Treasurer Wanda Girtman, 59 of Cave City would like to announce her candidacy for re-election subject to the May 24th Republican primary.

I feel I am the best qualified candidate for the office. I have proudly and humbly served 17 years as the County Treasurer. I strive daily to go above and beyond what the law requires of me to run an office that meets all regulations of the Arkansas Legislative Audit standards. I have the experience, knowledge and work ethic to do the job in a manner that the citizens of Sharp County can be proud of.

I am the widow of the late Norman Girtman of Cave City. The daughter of Geraldine Ables Kunkel and the late Billy D. Kunkel of Evening Shade. I have a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Kim Hunter, two grandchildren Brizden and Brylee, two stepchildren Greg andTeresa, a step-granddaughter and husband Mariessa and Michael Foley and two step-great granddaughters Olivia and Alissa, all of Cave City. I attend Cave City First Baptist Church were for many years I worked with the children’s programs. I graduated from Evening Shade High School in 1980. I have several hours of continuing education with the Arkansas State Treasurer’s Association.

I have always seen the job of County Treasurer as being an employee of the citizens of Sharp County. There is a lot more work and responsibility to being the County Treasurer than just showing up to sign checks and write receipts. The Treasurer is responsible for 98 different funds, 19 different bank accounts, revenue projections for yearly county budgets and preparing these into a packet that the Quorum Court can use to set the budgets, distribution of tax money to schools, cities, fire departments, state agencies, SID’s in a timely manner and state reports that, if not done correctly and in a timely manner, could cause Sharp County to lose necessary funding, reconciling bank statement to the county books, working with JP’s and other elected officials and employees in day to day activities that keeps the county government working in good condition. The County Treasurer is an important part of the County operating properly.

I take the responsibility very seriously and truly enjoy serving the Citizens of Sharp County and I hope you will continue to put your trust in me and allow me to continue serving you.
